Patti was born Oct. 31, 1953, to Henry and Melinda (Rehmann) Slanga. She was the youngest of six children, and was raised in Lester Prairie.
In 2004, Patti met the love of her life, Patrick Timothy (“Tim”) Collins, and they were married Oct. 26, 2008. They resided happily together in Waconia.
A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, Patti had a lifelong passion for gardening. Each and every day, she took time to see, appreciate, and embrace the beauty of flowers and plants. Gardening was also a source of part-time employment for her.
Totally in tune with nature, Patti loved to spend as much time outdoors playing with her projects as the season and a day allowed. She believed and practiced making a difference by improving the environment through recycling and conserving.
Patti was artistic; she made jewelry, gifts, and beautiful flower arrangements. An excellent homemaker, she had an immense amount of knowledge about cleaning every and any type of household item, and was always eager to share these tips with friends.
Patti had very close, wonderful relationships with her friends and family. She was generous with her time and talents, always ready to lend a helping hand if asked, and she always put others before herself.
She was sweet, kind, thoughtful, considerate, compassionate, and witty without a doubt, one-of-a-kind. Patti loved all those in her life unconditionally, and always had time to listen and be supportive. Unfavorable and negative words were not part of her vocabulary.
Friends and family will greatly miss Patti’s precious enduring enthusiasm, extreme love and zest for life, beaming smiles, contagious laughter, and especially, her “million dollar” hugs, which she so generously gave to all.
Patti was truly an inspiration, embracing what life brought to her with laughter, hope, courage, and gentle strength. This included two diagnoses of cancer, which she tenaciously faced and courageously fought to the best of her ability. Throughout her battle, Patti kept an admirable, most positive attitude, and optimistic outlook.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Melinda Slanga ( Rehmann); and her loving brothers, Rodney, Roger, James “Jimmy,” and Steven.
Patti is survived by her loving family, husband, Tim Collins of Waconia; son “Skip” Stippich and daughter-in-law Laura Karjala; grandchildren Parker, Olivia, and Jessica of Burnsville; stepdaughter MacKenzie Collins of Waconia; sister and brother-in-law Diane and Jeff Rossi of Minneapolis; sisters-in-law Lanora (Rodney) of Albany, OR; Bunny L. (Roger) of Saint Paul, Irene (James) of Sun City West, AZ; Brenda (Steven) of Nashville, TN; Jacqueline (Francis) Gingras; and many nieces and nephews.
