Richard Charles Corr, age 78, of Burnsville, passed away suddenly Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, due to a fall in Jamaica Beach, TX.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place Thursday, March 15 at 11 a.m. at Risen Savior Catholic Church in Burnsville, with visitation two hours prior to mass at the church, and interment at St. John’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to veterans.
Dick was born in Minneapolis, and grew up in Winsted. He graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1953, and attended St. John’s University, before entering the US Marine Corp. While in the service, he earned the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal as a sergeant stationed at Lake Mead base in Las Vegas, NV. Dick was called Sgt Birddog by his fellow servicemen, because they enjoyed hearing Dick’s hunting and fishing stories.
After Dick’s honorable discharge in 1956, he moved to Shakopee to start his 32-year career at Green Giant.
Dick met his loving wife, Ilene Werner in 1958. Dick and Ilene were married for 52 years and had four children.
Dick was an active member of Risen Savior Catholic Church in Burnsville, and Holy Family Parish in Jamaica Beach, TX.
He was an active member of American Legion Post 643, where he held the position of service officer for nine years.
Dick was active in the outdoors, enjoyed gardening, and was a terrific cook.
He is survived by his wife, Ilene; children, Judy, (Perry) Alan (Denise), Diane (Paul), and Janet (Steve); seven grandchildren, Hannah, Haley, Dominic, Jessica, McKenzie, Evie, and Nichols; and his sister, Carol Riding.
Dick was preceded in death by his grandson, Ryan Corr; parents Charles and Cecilia (Otto) Corr; a sister, Dorothy Hertzog; and a brother, Gary Corr.
