Karen Ione (Poff) Fasching, age 53, of Plainview, died Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
She was born Sept. 15, 1958, in Lompoc, CA, to Jack G. Poff and Carol A. Poff. Karen grew up primarily in the River Falls, WI area.
She graduated in May 1976 from River Falls High School, and received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in 1981.
Karen married Jim Fasching in July 1982, at Rush River Lutheran Church near River Falls, WI. They have two children.
Karen was employed by the Rochester Public Library, and worked in the technical services department. She had previously worked at the Plainview Public Library.
Karen loved to read, and maintained active memberships in two book clubs. Her other hobbies included gardening, knitting, crocheting, camping, baking, walking, and spending time with her family and friends. She also collected elephant figurines and sugar and creamer sets.
An active participant in church activities at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview, Karen served as a council member and Sunday school teacher.
A loving wife and mother, she will be missed by all. Karen always had a kind word or smile for anyone, depending on their need.
She is survived by her husband, Jim; son Christopher of Peoria, IL; daughter Andrea of Winona; mother Carol Poff of River Falls, WI; father Jack Poff (Linda) of Las Vegas, NV; brothers Mark (Kelly) Poff of Prescott, WI, and Eric (Thureya) Poff of Madison, WI; and a sister, Janet Poff of Lake Elmo.
Karen is further survived by her mother and father in-law, Anne and Joseph Fasching of Winsted, as well as brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service took place Friday, Feb. 17 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview, with the Rev. Kevin Woestehoff officiating.
Friends called Thursday, Feb. 16 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church.
