Roger A. Flatten Obituary – 7/28/2012

Roger Albert Flatten, age 84, of Litchfield, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, at the Meeker Memorial Hospital.

He was born May 18, 1928, in St. Louis Park, the son of Peter and Malena (Rassmussen) Flatten. Roger grew up in the Minneapolis area, where he graduated from high school.

He was baptized and confirmed, and had been attending at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel.

For 50 years, Roger was a member of the Minneapolis Plumbers Union Local 15 and had been employed by Kenwood Plumbing in St. Louis Park, retiring in 1993.

He loved to work with his hands, baking, canning, and making jelly. For several years, every Friday night the family would get together and play “500”– needless to say, he won more than he lost.

Roger is survived by his wife, Janice Flatten of Litchfield; children, Peter Flatten, Paul Flatten and Mary Flatten, Shari (Shannon) Palm, Vicky (Craig) Dunn, Mike Wade, Kent Vetsch, and Terri Ellingson; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Shelly; his parents; and his siblings.

The funeral service took place Thursday, Aug. 2 at noon at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, with the Rev. John Peterson officiating. Interment was at the Lake Arvilla Cemetery in rural Dassel.

Visitation was Wednesday evening, Aug. 1, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, and continued Thursday, one hour prior to the service, at the church.

Arrangements were by the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.
