LeRoy A. Hanson, age 92, of rural South Haven, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Lakeside Health Care Center of Dassel.
He was born at home in French Lake Township Aug. 11, 1920, to Fred and Edith (Ortquist) Hanson.
LeRoy attended Lee Country School of rural French Lake.
He honorably served his country as an MP in the US Army during World War II, in the South Pacific; and was a member of the American Legion.
LeRoy was united in marriage to Gladys Johnson Oct. 11, 1947. They farmed the family farm, and LeRoy was also employed by Russell Morris Tiling, Cokato Lumberyard, and Northland Canning of Cokato.
He enjoyed farming, and was remembered for his wonderful garden.
LeRoy also was a long-time active member of Grace Lutheran Church in South Haven, and served on the church and cemetery boards.
He is survived by his wife, Gladys, of rural South Haven; brother Herbert (Ellen) Hanson of St. Cloud; brother-in-law Floyd Isaacson of Cokato; children Keith (Joanie) Hanson of South Haven, Maxine (Kim) Cates of Kingston, Barry (Laura) Hanson of Annandale, Peggy (Tom) Steinman of Willmar, and Nancy (Roger) Mann of Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and care center roommate and good friend, Don Danielson.
LeRoy was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Rosilyn Isaacson; and a grandson, Paul Cates.
Visitation and funeral services took place Sunday, Dec. 16 at Grace Lutheran Church in rural South Haven. Interment was at Grace Lutheran Cemetery, with military honors provided by Kingston American Legion.
Pallbearers were LeRoy’s grandchildren, and honorary pallbearers were his great-grandchildren.
