Eldron L. Hecksel, 69

Eldron Lennis Hecksel, age 69, of Winsted, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012, at Glencoe Long Term Care.

He was born Jan. 27, 1943, in Hollywood Township, Carver County, the son of Woodrow H. and Ardis A. Guetzkow Hecksel. Eldron was baptized Feb. 14, 1943, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in rural Hollywood Township by the Rev. W.L. Ernst. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism and confirmed in the Christian faith May 13, 1956, by the Rev. Edgar Schroeder at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.

Eldron honorably served his country in the National Guard.

In 1964, Eldron became associated with auctions. He later owned and operated Hecksel Auctions.

Eldron was joined in holy marriage with Sharon L. Lauzer April 19, 1969, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four sons.

A faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted, Eldron formerly served as his congregation’s chairman and vice chairman, and was on the building committee.

Eldron also belonged to Winsted American Legion Post 407. He founded Winsted Legion Days and served over two decades. In 2011, Eldron was honorary grand marshall of Winsted Summer Festival’s parade, but due to health reasons, he was not able to be there.

Eldron loved his grandchildren, enjoyed auctions, was handy and liked to tinker with things, and was always a “people person.”

He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Sharon; four sons, Jeffery (Kelly) Hecksel of Lester Prairie, Brian (Karen) Hecksel of Winsted, Neil (Sharon) Hecksel of Lester Prairie, and Jason (Karen) Hecksel of Silver Lake; grandchildren Ashley, Elizabeth, Nathan, Christopher, Kala and Trenten; Steven, Kara, Sean, Benjaman and Joshua; and Andrea, William and Samuel; a brother, Marlin (Marlene) Hecksel; sisters Joyce (Ron) Schmidt and Jane (Ron) Dressel; and other relatives and friends.

Eldron was preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Ardis Hecksel; a nephew, Darwin Barfnecht; sisters Janice Barfnecht and June Gongoll; and a brother, Lennis Hecksel.

Funeral services took place Friday, May 4 at noon at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted with the Rev. Mark Loder officiating. Molly Loder was the organist, and Bruce Gatz was the soloist. Interment with military rites followed at Winsted Public Cemetery.

Visitation was Thursday, May 3 from 4 to 8 p.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued Friday, one hour prior to the services at the church.

Casket bearers were Ashley Hecksel, Steven Hecksel, Greg Gongoll, Ben Lauzer, Dan Hecksel, and Scott Schmidt.
