Wilfred “Willie” Oscar Honebrink, Jr., age 78, of Sedan, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 25, 2012, at his home.
He was born Sept. 10, 1933, in Marysville Township, Wright County, the son of Wilfred Oscar and Alvera (Westerman) Honebrink.
Willie grew up near Delano, and graduated from Delano High School.
After high school, he entered active military service in the US Army Oct. 14, 1953. Willie served his country during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged Sept. 30, 1961.
Willie farmed near Delano along with driving truck. He continued to live in the Delano area until he retired 12 years ago and moved to Grove Lake. Four years ago, he purchased a home in Sedan and alternated between his home in Grove Lake in the summer, and Sedan in the winter.
Willie was a member of the American Legion in Delano, and then in Brooten. He also belonged to the VFW in Montrose.
He enjoyed collecting antique tractors, fishing, visiting with friends, and farming. After he moved to Grove Lake, he continued to help out with farm work for a friend.
Willie is survived by his special friend of 30 years, Diane Meagher; his children, Kim (Doyle) Meinzer of Madison Lake, Sandy Honebrink of Wind Song Farms, Maple Plain, Lisa Honebrink of Scottsdale, AZ, Julie Honebrink of Minneapolis, Tony (Darcy) Meagher of Delano, Todd Meagher of Belgrade, MT, and Lori (Joel) Clark of Birchwood, WI; seven grandchildren; other relatives, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Mavis Nagel.
A memorial service took place Wednesday, March 28 at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grove Lake, with Pastor Joshua Heimbuck officiating. There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
