Bernice Agnes Hutter, age 93, of Glencoe, formerly of Delano, died Sunday, June 3, 2012, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.
She was born Aug. 27, 1918, in Howard Lake, the daughter of Matthias and Mary (Kaniuth) Roelike. Bernice was baptized as an infant, and later received the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation in the Catholic faith.
She received her education at St. Peter’s Catholic grade school in Delano, and was a graduate of the Delano High School class of 1936. Bernice furthered her education by receiving clerical training for one year in Delano.
Bernice was united in marriage to Donald Hutter Sept. 16, 1940, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano. This marriage was blessed with three children, Mary Ann, Richard and Robert.
The couple made their home in Delano, and in January of 2003, Bernice moved to Orchard Estates in Glencoe. Then, in 2007, when Bernice needed assistance with her daily care, she became a resident of the Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.
Bernice and Donald shared over 60 years of marriage, until Donald passed away April 19, 2001.
In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Bernice held employment at Delano Granite Works, performing clerical duties. She was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Delano, and Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe.
A spiritual and prayerful woman, Bernice also had a great sense of humor, and was caring and very dependable. She enjoyed sewing and cooking for her family, and tending the garden with her husband.
Bernice’s family was her priority, and she especially cherished the time spent with her family.
Bernice is survived by her children, Mary Ann Thalmann and her husband, Randall, of Plato Dr. Richard Hutter and his wife, Marlene, of Onalaska, WI, and Robert Hutter and his wife, Diane, of Delano; grandchildren Brian Thalmann and his wife, Karen, of Plato, Janelle Hutter and her fiancé, Michael Harrel, of Chicago, IL, Hilary Nelson and her husband, Mikal Nelson MD, of Corpus Cristi, TX, Elizabeth Hutter of Minneapolis, and Emily Hutter of Delano; great-grandchildren Eric Thalmann, Adam Thalmann, and Emily Thalmann; a sister-in-law, Geraldine Hutter of Maple Plain; and other relatives and friends.
In addition to her husband, Donald, Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Matthias and Mary Roelike.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, June 6 at 11 a.m., at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, followed by interment at Calvary Cemetery in Delano. Fr. Anthony Stubeda officiated at the Mass. The pianist was Denise Lueders, and song leaders were Gus and Irene Makovsky. Soloist Emily Hutter sang “Amazing Grace.” Congregational hymns were “Here I Am Lord,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “You Are Mine,” and “How Great Thou Art.”
Casket bearers were Randall Thalmann, Brian Thalmann, Elizabeth Hutter, Emily Hutter, Janelle Hutter, and Hilary Nelson.
