Viola “Vi” Lorraine Jenneke, age 91, of Waconia, formerly of Lester Prairie, died Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2012, at Ridgeview Medical Center of Waconia.
She was born Sept. 18, 1920, in Williston, ND, the daughter of Lauritz and Anna (Helseth) Bolsoe. Viola was baptized as an infant Nov. 28, 1920, and confirmed in her faith as a youth in Williston, ND.
She received her education in Williston, and furthered her education at Augsburg College in Minneapolis, graduating in 1944.
Vi was united in marriage to Lou R. Jenneke June 1, 1946, in Minneapolis. The couple made their home in Lester Prairie, and were blessed with three children, Cheryl, John, and Keith. Vi and Lou shared over 55 years of marriage, until Lou passed away Aug. 11, 2001.
Vi was a teacher in Morton and Eagle Bend before moving to Lester Prairie and becoming a high school English teacher for over 20 years. After retirement, she and Louie would winter in Lady Lake, FL, and spend the summers at their cabin in Cross Lake, MN.
In 1996, they moved to Westview Acres Apartments in Waconia.
Vi was a faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was also a member of Legion Auxiliary for 54 years.
Vi enjoyed cooking, baking, traveling, reading, and playing cards and Scrabble. Her greatest love was people, from teaching her students, to more recently, socializing with her neighbors at Westview Acres. Vi cherished spending time with her family, especially enjoying their yearly vacations at Boyd Lodge.
She is survived by her children, Cheryl Bratsch and her husband, Keith of Bloomington, John Jenneke and his wife, Linda, of Maple Grove, and Keith Jenneke and his wife, June, of Seminole, FL; grandchildren Timothy Jenneke and his wife, Tiffany of Maple Grove, Jill Pennings and her husband, Benjamin, of Champlin, Joel Bratsch of Minneapolis, Paul Bratsch and his wife, Jessica, of La Crosse, WI, Philip Bratsch of Minneapolis, Raymond Montchal and his wife, Kim, of Largo, FL, and Gregory Montchal and his wife, Tammy, of Seminole, FL; great-grandchildren Luke, Matthew, Annie, Lucy, Silas, Maggie, Micah, Taylor, Aaron, Chanel, Charlsie, Nick, Anthony, and Jacob; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
In addition to her husband, Lou, Vi was preceded in death by her parents, Lauritz and Anna Bolsoe; daughter-in-law Gerie Jenneke; grandson Kirk Bratsch; granddaughter Carolyn Siemer; and a sister, Alice Nelson (Clifford).
Funeral services took place Saturday, Feb. 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Eric Nelson officiated. The organist was Marsha Christenson. Special music was provided by Chuck Thiel who performed “In The Garden.” Congregational hymns included “In The Garden,” “Lord, I Lift your Name On High,” and “On Eagle’s Wings.”
Casket bearers were Timothy Jenneke, Joel Bratsch, Benjamin Pennings, Paul Bratsch, Philip Bratsch, and Kenneth Nelson.
