Peter Sidney Johnson, age 68, of St. James, formerly of Dassel, died Thursday, April 5, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic Health Care Systems, Fairmont.
The funeral service will take place Tuesday April 10 at 11 a.m. at the North Crow River Lutheran Church, rural Cokato, with the Rev. Michael Nelson officiating. Interment will follow at the North Crow River Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday evening, April 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and will continue Tuesday at the church, one hour prior to the service.
Peter was born Sept. 18, 1943, in Cokato, the son of Sidney and Lillian (Tapio) Johnson. He grew up in the Knapp area and was baptized and confirmed at the North Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Cokato.
Peter went to country school in the Knapp area and later Cokato High School; he then attended the Winona Technical School and received a degree in auto body repair.
Peter lived in the Dassel area for several years before moving to other places in Minnesota. He then settled in the St. James area for the past year and a half.
Peter worked in auto body repair, and for Payco Seeds for 10 years. He had the gift to gab, loved to collect things, and could often be found attending flea markets. He also enjoyed camping, and was proud of his children and grandchildren and their accomplishments.
He was very proud of the many years that he served with the Dassel Volunteer Fire Department.
Peter is survived by his children, Shawn Johnson of Dassel, Vanessa (Paul) Haekenkamp, and Aaron Johnson, all of Hutchinson; two grandchildren, Jesse Johnson and Valerie Haekenkamp; siblings John Johnson of Delano, and Sharon (James) Bodeker of Robbinsdale; former spouse Jeri Johnson of Dassel; and caregiver Tiffany Burau.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
