Arlene Alice Johnson, age 80, of Litchfield, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at Emmanuel Nursing Home of Litchfield.
She was born Aug. 17, 1931, in Meeker County, the daughter of Marlin and Florence (Campbell) Booth.
Arlene grew up and attended grade school in Forest City. She graduated from Litchfield High School in 1949, and continued her education at St. Cloud State University.
She was united in marriage to Harlan Johnson in 1952, at the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield.
Arlene taught school in Kingston and Sauk Rapids, before moving to Dassel, where she taught at the Dassel-Cokato school and also served as the curriculum administrator for 44 years.
She continued to substitute teach after she retired, and for a few years, while wintering in Arizona, she helped students with learning disabilities.
Arlene was very active in the First Presbyterian Church, having served as elder, clerk of session, and Sunday school teacher. She also enjoyed singing in the choir.
Arlene was a charter member of the Forest City Threshers and enjoyed travelling to tractor shows with Harlan. She also enjoyed yardwork, baking bread, and music.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Harlan of Litchfield; sons Richard (and Carrie) Johnson of Kimball, and Doug (and Laurie) Johnson of Litchfield; grandson Jared Johnson (and fiancée Courtney Nistler) of Litchfield; and close cousins, Darlene Miller, Barb Wischmann, and Delores Whiddon.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepmother, Donna; and a sister, Beulah.
A memorial service took place Thursday, June 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Litchfield, followed by interment at the Lake Ripley Cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday, June 27 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home; and continued Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.
