Orland Kreitlow, age 88, of Kimball and Montrose, passed away peacefully at The Wellstead of Rogers Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012.
He was born April 12, 1924, to Herman and Sadie Kreitlow of Montrose.
Upon graduating from high school, Orland immediately enrolled in the United States Navy.
He was united in marriage to Phyllis M. Martin Aug. 15, 1947, in Papillion, NE. They had two children, Audrey and Sherry.
Orland spent 30 years in the Navy before retiring Aug. 31, 1971. Even after retirement, he dedicated his entire life to the service, participating in many parades and speaking at several Memorial Day celebrations. He also loved to travel to his annual naval reunions, and sharing his many military stories.
After retirement, Orland worked as a county assessor and held office as the mayor of Montrose. In his spare time, he enjoyed keeping busy by helping out on the farm, tending the vegetable garden, and spending time with his grandchildren.
Orland is survived by daughters Audrey (Jay II) Conners of Springfield, VA, and Sherry (Robert) Epple of Kimball; grandchildren Michele Conners, Jay Conners III, Tony (Stacey Hoskins) Epple, Paul (Jody Orbeck) Epple, Donnie (Kari Notch) Epple and Steven (Jessica) Epple; and great-grandchildren Morgan Finnegan, MaKayla Epple, Cheyenne Epple, JaDyn Nohner, Madison Epple, Tessa Epple, Ryan Epple and Becca Jean Epple.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis Kreitlow; parents Herman and Sadie Kreitlow; sisters Audrey and Bertha Kreitlow; and a granddaughter, Leslie Conners.
Funeral services took place Saturday, Nov. 3 at 2 p.m. at Montrose United Methodist Church, followed by interment at Kreidler Cemetery, rural Montrose.
Visitation was Friday, Nov. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Peterson Chapel in Buffalo, which handled the arrangements. Online condolences may be made to www.thepetersonchapel.com.
