Laura L. Kruschke, 91

Laura Lydia Kruschke, age 91, of Lester Prairie, died Friday, April 27, 2012, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.

She was born July 12, 1920, in Norwood Young America, the daughter of Diedreich and Anna (Klancke) Engelmann. Laura was baptized as an infant July 25, 1920, by the Rev. Baumhoefner, and was confirmed in her faith as a youth March 25, 1934, by the Rev. Abraham, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America

Laura received her education in Norwood Young America, and was a graduate of St. John’s Lutheran School from the eighth grade in 1934, and from Central High School with the class of 1938.

Laura was united in marriage to Harold Kruschke June 18, 1941, by the Rev. VomHof at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Eunice, Robert and Dennis.

The couple made their home on the Kruschke family farm, south of Lester Prairie, and then moved to Lester Prairie in 1981.

Laura and Harold shared over 44 years of marriage, until Harold passed away Nov. 23, 1985.

In 2010, Laura made her home at Grand Meadows, and later moved to Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care in Glencoe.

In addition to being a loving homemaker and mother, Laura was a farm wife and enjoyed helping Harold on the family farm for 27 years. She also held employment at the Sunrise Bakery in Lester Prairie until they closed. She later baked and decorated cakes from her home and was known as the cake lady.

As a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Laura sang in the church choir for many years and was also a member of the Ladies Aid, where she held many positions. She was also an active member of the Lester Prairie Senior Citizens.

Laura enjoyed crafts, quilting, baking, sewing, fishing, and gardening, especially her flowers. She especially cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Laura is survived by her children, Eunice Cohrs and her husband, Richard, of Mayer, Robert “Bob” Kruschke of Lester Prairie, and Dennis Kruschke and his wife, Lonna, of Glencoe; grandchildren Troy Cohrs and his wife, Julie, and their child, Maggie, of Northfield; Michael Cohrs and his wife, Mary, and their children, Grant and Reid of Mayer; Jamie Dunham and her husband, Tim, and their children, Marcus and Mackenzie, of Golden Valley; Tammy Festvog and her husband, Kaare, of Apple Valley; Kayse Ellingson–Myer and her husband, Peter, of Moorhead; Christopher Kruschke and his wife, Lynette, and their children, Kaylee and Eric, of Glencoe; and Shauna Ardolf and her husband, Scott, and their children, Savannah, Sawyer and Sydney of Silver Lake; sisters-in-law Lorna Wilkens of Waconia, Luella Prehn, Leona Wroge, both of Lester Prairie, and Eldora Miller of Plato; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services took place Sunday, April 29 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. James Gomez officiating. The organist was Yvonne Schuette, and congregational hymns included “What A Friend We Have In Jesus,” “The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want,” and “Beautiful Savior.” Interment was in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Troy Cohrs, Michael Cohrs, Christopher Kruschke, Tim Dunham, Kaare Festvog, Peter Ellingson-Myer, and Scott Ardolf.

In addition to her husband, Harold, Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Diedreich and Anna Engelmann; and siblings Hilbert Engelmann, Wilmar Engelmann, Elsie Harjes, and Edna Gruetzmacher.
