Martha L. Kuntz, age 94, of New Germany, died Sunday, April 22, 2012, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
She was born Sept. 5, 1917, in Mayer, the daughter of Herman and Magdalena (Hill) Zummach. Martha was baptized Sept. 23, 1917, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. F.W. Erthal; and confirmed by the same March 20, 1932.
Martha was united in marriage to Otto E. Kuntz Oct. 10, 1937, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer by the Rev. E. Schwandt.
A loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandmother, she loved to visit with family and friends and enjoyed family get-togethers. Some of her hobbies were gardening, canning, baking, traveling, old tyme music, and going to dances.
A faithful member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, Martha would often read the Bible and Portals of Prayer, and was an avid listener of Billy Graham.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Otto; parents Herman and Magdalena Zummach; brother Waldemar “Pete” Zummach; and sisters Flora Luedtke, Margaret Zellmann Burau, Luella Granzow, and Glenna Schumacher.
Martha is survived by her loving family; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Sharon Kuntz of Lester Prairie; daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Larry Stender of Waconia; grandchildren Deborah and Rory Michaelis, Patricia and Steven Williams, Mark and Jody Stender, Chad and Tricia Stender, and Jamie and MacKenzie Stender; great-grandchildren Sarah and Rob Olson, Holly Menth, Taylor Williams, Alex Williams, Brant Stender, Rilie Stender, Samantha Stender, Emma Stender, Corbyn Stender, and Brock Stender; brother-in-law Elmer Kuntz of Buffalo; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Thursday, April 26 at 2 p.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in New Germany, with the Rev. LeRoy LaPlant officiating. Visitation was from noon until the time of the service at the church. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were Mark Stender, Chad Stender, Jamie Stender, Taylor Williams, Alex Williams, and Brant Stender.
