Joan ‘Red’ Kust Obituary – 6/18/2012


Joan Margaret “Red” Kust, age 79, of Mound, passed away peacefully with her family by her side Monday, June 18, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer at the Marie Steiner Kelting Hospice House.

She was born Nov. 8, 1932, in Faribault, to Luverne and Clara (Linster) Nordmeier.

Joan was united in marriage to Gerald Eugene Kust Nov. 25, 1950, in Faribault.

Joan was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church for over 60 years.

She served as the CFO of Kust Construction, doing the bookkeeping for her husband’s construction company over the years.

Joan’s main priority in life was her family. Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was truly something she loved.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald; a great-grandson, Breckon Berent; her parents, Luverne and Clara Nordmeier; a brother, John “Jack” Nordmeier; sister and brother-in-law Jeanette (Richard) Craig; parents-in-law Joseph and Elizabeth Kust; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Robert (Jean) Kust, Joseph Kust Jr, Betty Keesling, and Clifford Wheeler; and nephew Nathan Green.

Joan is survived by her children, Michael (Kathy), Brenda (Thomas) Berent, and Pam (Tim) Olson; grandchildren Scott (Camille) Walz, Tina (George) LaMora, Christopher (Stacey) Berent, Daniel (Tarra) Berent, Brian (Amber) Berent, Rebecca (Chris) Skillings, Jeffrey Olson, Alex Olson, and Jordan Olson; and great-grandchildren William and Joshua Walz, Dominic, Anisa, Mitra, and Lynden LaMora, Jacob Lewis, Drew, Braedyn, Cameron, and Ava Berent, Peyton and Gabriella Berent, Samantha Berent, and Xavier and Aubreyannah Skillings.

She is further survived by sisters Joyce (Kenneth) Brazil, and Judy (Jerome) Bauer; as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, June 23 at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Mound, with a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to the services in the church.

Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
