Earland (Earl) H. Latzig, age 83, of Winsted, passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2012, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
He was born Aug. 6, 1928, in New Germany, the son of Otto and Ella (Schuette) Latzig. Earl attended school in New Germany, and was confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.
He was united in marriage to Dorothy Neumann Feb. 18, 1950. He and Dorothy raised four children; two sons and two daughters.
Earl worked as a welder and mechanic his entire life at many places including Black Chevrolet, Johnson and Sons, AA Auto Service, and Quast Transfer. He began his own business, “Earl’s Repair” next to the family’s home in rural Winsted in 1969. He operated this business until his retirement in 2006.
Earl enjoyed playing the concertina, fishing, and camping. He and Dorothy were members of the PoLK of A club and spent many hours dancing and attending polka festivals over a 40-year span.
Earl is survived by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy; son Kevin (Charlene) of Lester Prairie; daughters Cindy (Frank) McKenna of Hartland, WI, and Cheryl (Glen) Meger of Owatonna; nine grandchildren: Nick (Amanda) Latzig, Britney Latzig, Tonia Radtke (Tom Schoenfeld), Brad Radtke (Mindy Specken), Ryan Klaustermeier, Taylor Klaustermeier; Mike Meger, Alex Meger, and Brett Meger; and five great-grandchildren Caleb and Marissa Radtke, Cadence Klaustermeier, Autum Schoenfeld, and Krissa Latzig.
He is also survived by one brother, Virgil (Ruth) Latzig; nieces; nephews; and many other relatives and friends.
Earl was preceded in death by a son, Larry, in 1973; brothers Marvin and Allen; and a sister, Eldoris.
Funeral services took place Saturday, May 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with interment at Winsted Cemetery.
Visitation was Friday, May 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the church, and continued Saturday for one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements were by the Brick Meger Funeral Home in Owatonna.
