Robert J. Laxen, Sr. Obituary – 10/18/2012


Robert “Bob” Joseph Laxen Sr., age 84, of Winsted, passed away Thursday evening, Oct. 18, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Jan. 9, 1928, in Victor Township, Wright County, the son of Bernard and Helen Quast Laxen. Bob was born and raised on the family homestead.

He attended school at Holy Trinity in Winsted.

Bob honorably served his country in the United States Army during World War II.

Robert was joined in holy marriage with Helen R. Lahr June 28, 1958, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church. God blessed their marriage with six children.

Bob engaged in farming for many years on the family homestead. He also later owned and operated Laxen Bulk Oil Company.

Bob and Helen moved to Winsted in 1995, and a year later, sold the oil company to Ralph Machemehl, in which Robert continued to help Ralph.

A very gentle, caring, and hard-working man, Bob led by example. He taught his family to work hard and to treat others with kindness and respect. Bob was always willing to help others in their time of need.

To his grandchildren, Bob was an idol. He was a man full of funny stories, many of which he told while taking the kids for rides in his gas truck and tractor.

Bob was a very caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He enjoyed spending time visiting with company, playing cards, and being outdoors with family.

He will be dearly missed by many.

Bob is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Helen R. Laxen; children, Katherine “Kathy” Cuadros, Frances “Fran” (Tim) Dahl, Pauline Laxen, Robert (Julie) Laxen Jr., Mark (Ann) Laxen, all of Winsted, and Rose Stenberg of Waconia; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

He is further survived by a brother, Clarence (Lidwina) Laxen of Winsted; a sister, Hermina Zuk of Sturgeon Lake; two half sisters, Diana (Roger) Thompson of Winsted, and Rosalie (Dick) Hesse of Stillwater; and many other relatives and friends.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Helen; a brother, Leonard; a sister-in-law, Clara Laxen; a brother-in-law, Ted Zuk; a step-sister, Margie Fasching; and by his stepfather, Tony Scheiber.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Father Tony Stubeda and Father Paul Schumacher as celebrants. Organists were Alice Nowak and Jason Deiter. Interment with military rites followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday, Oct. 22 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with parish prayers at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary and Catholic Order of Foresters. Jason Dieter played the song, “A Daisy a Day.”

Honorary casket bearer was Cristobal Cuadros.

Casket bearers were Alex Cuadros, Steve Cuadros, Tim Dahl Jr., Justin Dahl, Robert Trevor Laxen, Josh Laxen, Nicholas Laxen, Joey Laxen, and David Stenberg.
