Howard Lemke, age 84, of Morton, died Tuesday, Aug. 14, 2012, at Rice Memorial Hospital in Willmar.
He was born May 8, 1928, near New Germany, the son of Franz Jr. and Ida (Latzig) Lemke. Howard was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in New Germany.
He attended elementary school near New Germany, and graduated from Central High School near Norwood Young America in 1947.
Howard served in the armed forces during the Korean War, from 1951 to 1953. After returning to the states, he graduated from Mankato State College in 1954.
Howard taught in elementary schools for the next 30 years, retiring in June 1984.
He married Lucille (Lothert) Menz in August 1975, and spent many happy years gardening and working alongside Lucille in their yard. Howard also enjoyed a good ball game.
He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, in August 2011; his parents; his brothers, Paul and Walter; and his sisters, Erna and Hilda.
Funeral services took place Friday, Aug. 17 at 10:30 a.m. from Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Morton, with visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial followed at 2 p.m. at St. Mark’s Crow River Cemetery near New Germany.
