Loren W. “Sonny” Lenz, age 79, of Watertown, died Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
He was born July 10, 1933, in Watertown, the son of William F. and Dora E. (Schilling) Lenz. Loren was baptized Aug. 6, 1933, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church of Watertown Township by the Rev. Rudolph; and confirmed at the same church March 30, 1947, by the Rev. J.S. Spomer.
After serving in the US Army, Loren worked mostly as a truck driver.
He enjoyed reading the daily paper, visiting with friends, fishing, and especially trips to Steamboat Lake. A big sports fan, Loren was always interested in how the Twins and Vikings were doing.
He was proud of his 30-acre hobby farm outside of Watertown, where he raised a few pigs and beef cattle.
Loren had been a resident of the Elim Home in Watertown since September 2003.
He cherished time with his family, especially his many nieces and nephews.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dora Lenz; brother Lester Lenz; sister Ardis Burandt; sister-in-law Carol Lenz; and brother-in-law Keith Saunders
He is survived by his brother, William Lenz of Watertown; sister Marion Saunders of Waconia; brother-in-law Merlin Burandt of Waconia; sister-in-law Marjorie Lenz of Watertown; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Wednesday, Aug. 22 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Rev. Paul Krentz officiating. There was visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Interment was at Watertown Public Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Neil Burandt, Daryl Lenz, Fred Lenz, Gene Gabrelcik, Gary Schaust, and Craig Anderson.
Honorary casket bearers were Donald Burandt and Jeff Saunders.
