Irene Luescher (Neumann), age 89, of Arkansas, formerly of Cokato, died Wednesday, June 27, 2012, in Mountain Home, AR.
She was born July 2, 1922, in Waterbury Township, Redwood County, Minnesota, the daughter of Otto and Hulda (Wickmann) Neumann. Irene attended a country grade school near Wabasso.
She was married to Wilbur Luescher April 14, 1944,
The couple farmed near Wabasso until 1968, when they moved to Cokato to work in a home for disabled persons. While in Cokato, they entered a wholesale retail business.
After Wilbur’s death in a car accident in 1987, Irene moved to Buffalo, then in 1990, moved to Monticello, and in 2006, to Lakeview, AR.
Irene was an active member in the auxiliary of Gideon’s International (which distributes God’s Word in over 187 countries).
She furthered her grade school education by attending the Summer School of Christian Education, graduating in 1962.
Irene served as Sunday school superintendent, vacation church school leader, and as a youth camp counselor at Lake Koronis for many years. She was active in jail ministry to the women inmates at the Wright County jail, and also volunteered at the Buffalo food shelf.
She is survived by a daughter, Joyce and son-in-law Carl Miller of Lakeview, AR; two grandsons: Brian Miller of Abbotsford, WI and David (Nancy) Miller of Isle, MN; great-grandchildren Nicholas and Megan, and Emily and Daniel Miller; a brother, Marvin Neumann of Redwood Falls, MN; nieces; nephews; and a host of friends.
In addition to her husband, Wilbur, Irene was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters.
A funeral service took place Monday, July 2 at 11 a.m. at Buffalo Covenant Church, followed by interment at Cokato City Cemetery.
Visitation was Sunday, July 1, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato.
