Lucille E. Mallak, 99

Lucille Elizabeth “Lucy” Mallak, age 99, of Silver Lake, died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at the Hutchinson Community Hospital.

She was born Dec. 13, 1912, in Hale Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Martin and Mary Zanoth Mallak. Lucille was baptized and confirmed at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Silver Lake.

She received her education through the St. Adalbert Catholic School.

Lucy and Dominic Mallak were joined in holy marriage June 24, 1935, at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with five children.

The couple engaged in dairy farming in Hale Township for many years.

Dominic passed away in 1969. Lucy continued to live on the farm until 2010, when she became a resident of Cedar Crest in Silver Lake.

Along with farming, she held employment at various factories, including Green Giant and Hands, Inc. until late in life. She was a hard worker.

Lucy enjoyed gardening and was a wonderful cook and baker. She was fond of playing cards and bingo and going to casinos, and enjoyed dancing and going out to eat.

A very special mom, grandma, and great-grandma, she enjoyed visits and celebrating family get-togethers. Lucy was the matriarch of her family.

A faithful, lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church (previously St. Adalbert) in Silver Lake, she was a member of the CCW and Rosary Society. She also was a member of the SL Senior Citizens Club and Degree of Honor.

Lucy is survived by her loving children: Shirley Fiecke of Winsted, Roger (Joyce) Mallak, Glenn (Judy) Mallak and Sandra Heuer, all of Silver Lake; son-in-law Bernie Zejdlik of Hutchinson; 21 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; 10 great, great-grandchildren; a sister, Ilean Anderson of Inver Grove Heights; a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Mallak of Silver Lake; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic; a daughter, Audrey Zejdlik; a grandson, Rich Mallak (Lucy’s day of death was special, happening on Richie’s birthday); a great-granddaughter Mellissa Fiecke; two sons-in-laws Marvin Fiecke and Gary Heuer; her parents, Martin and Mary Mallak; sisters Anna Grzeskowiak, Gertrude Tupa, and Magdalen McCullum; brothers Clarence and Robert Mallak; Dominic’s family; and other family and friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Monday, Jan. 9 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Father Patrick Okonkwo was the celebrant, with long-time family friend Alice Nowak as the organist for the Mass. Interment followed at St. Adalbert Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday, Jan. 8 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, with a combined Rosary Society and CCW Rosary recited at 5 p.m., a Degree of Honor service at 5:30 p.m., and a parish prayer service at 6 p.m.

Honorary casket bearers were Lucy’s granddaughters, Lynn and Shelly Mallak; Mary Pankonin (deceased); and godchildren Diane Steinkopf, Eyone Tupa, Sue Ruzicka, and Delores Greenwaldt.

Casket bearers were Mike and Marvin Fiecke, Bruce and Jeremy Heuer, and Jeff and Bradley Mallak (grandsons).
