Earl Mielke, 78

Earl Robert Mielke, age 78, of New Germany, died Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012, at Good Samaritan Care Center in Waconia.

He was born Sept. 15, 1934, in Watertown, the son of Emil and Bertha (Dennin) Mielke. Earl was baptized as an infant Oct. 7, 1934, by the Rev. Ernst at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hollywood, MN, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth, March 21, 1948, by the Rev. R. A. Ritz at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

Earl received his education in Lester Prairie and was a graduate of the Lester Prairie High School class of 1952. He was awarded from the State Council of Minnesota Colleges the honor of “highest ranking boy in the Class of 1952.”

Earl made his home in New Germany, on his grandfather’s farm, which was purchased in 1905. His life’s work and passion was farming on that family farm.

Earl was a member at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

He enjoyed repairing and improving machines, plants, animals, and listening to the Lutheran Hour. He was always looking for new ideas for better farming. Earl cherished the time spent with his friends and neighbors.

Earl is survived by his friends, Oria Brinkmeier and Gwen Wyatt, both of Lester Prairie, Paul Robideau and his wife, Laura, of New Germany; cousins; other relatives; and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Emil and Bertha Mielke.

Funeral services took place Tuesday, Dec. 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, Minnesota, followed by interment in the church cemetery.

The Rev. Eric Nelson officiated at the service. Organist was Marsha Christenson, and soloist Ralph Prehn sang “The Lord’s Prayer.” Congregational hymns were “A Mighty Fortress Is Our God,” “My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “O Come, O Come Emanuel.”

Casket bearers were Paul Robideau, Mark Schurmann, Dean Schurmann, and Rick Lyzhoft.
