Marvin Joseph Neumann Sr., age 88, of Silver Lake, passed away in his home Monday, Oct. 15, 2012.
He was born Oct. 1, 1924, in Hollywood Township, Carver County, the son of Joseph and Amelia (Kallenbach) Neumann.
Marvin and Marietta Sherman were married June 2, 1948, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Their marriage of 64 years was blessed with 10 children.
Marvin had been a member of the Silver Lake Knights of Columbus and Catholic Order of Foresters. He was a leader of the Winsted Jolly Juniors 4-H Club.
Marvin enjoyed playing cards and putting jigsaw puzzles together, and loved being surrounded by his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids. He also enjoyed listening to polka music, cutting the lawn, traveling, and feeding and watching the birds, and was an avid fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Joseph Neumann, Elaine Neumann, Shirley Quast, and Wilbert Neumann; and son-in-law Howard Dworshak.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Marietta Neumann; children James (Jackie) Neumann of Oviedo, FL, Linda Dworshak of Chandler, AZ, Victoria (Philip) Marketon of Howard Lake, Carol (Rick) Dangers of Blaine, JoAnn (John) Klein of Maple Grove, Jerome Neumann of Lawton, MI, Marvin (Sherrie) Neumann Jr. of Silver Lake, Joseph (Layla) Neumann of Macon, GA, Philip (Stacey) Neumann of Lester Prairie, and Donna (Joseph) Morang of Winsted; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Saturday, Oct. 20 at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted at 2 p.m., with Father Paul Schumacher as the celebrant.
Honorary casket bearers were David Neumann, Terry Neumann, Adrian Dworshak, Maria Gonzales, Eric Dworshak, Melanie Marketon-Haga, Jesse Neumann, Kevin Neumann, Alayna Neumann, Jacob Neumann, LCpl Zachery Neumann, and Duncan Morang.
Casket bearers were Dan Neumann, Tony Marketon, Crystal (Dangers) Reich, Jennifer Dangers, Sara (Neumann) Helget, Laura Neumann, Westen Neumann, and Lucas Morang.
Visitation was Friday, Oct. 19 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a Catholic Order of Foresters Rosary at 4 p.m., and parish prayers at 7 p.m. Visitation continued Saturday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
The Chilson Funeral Home of Winsted assisted the family with arrangements.
