Bernadine V. Nowak, 80

Bernadine Veronica Nowak, age 80, of Silver Lake, passed away Saturday evening, March 24, 2012.

She was born May 23, 1931, in Winsted Township, the daughter of Norbert and Anna Remer Fasching.

Bernadine grew up in Winsted, and graduated from Holy Trinity High School.

She was joined in holy marriage with Edmund E. Nowak Sept. 1, 1954, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Bernadine and Edmund engaged in dairy farming in Hale Township, McLeod County.

A gentle, quiet, and very caring person, Bernadine taught their children what they needed to know. She was also known for making pies.

She enjoyed cards, playing bingo, polka music, and loved to travel. Bernadine and Edmund wintered in Arizona for many years.

Bernadine was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake.

She is survived by her children, Joseph (Cindy) Nowak and Donald (Yvonne) Nowak, all of Silver Lake, Catherine (Allen) Kerber of Arlington, and Edmund (Wendy) Nowak Jr. of Silver Lake; 15 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Benilda Schermann of Pine River; and other relatives and friends.

Bernadine was preceded in death by her husband, Edmund Nowak Sr. May 25, 2009; her parents; a brother, George Fasching; and by three sisters, Delphine Quast, Corrina Sterner, and Alma Bebo.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, March 29 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake with Father Tony Stubeda as the celebrant. Alice Nowak was the organist, and gift bearers were Melanie Nowak, Ethan Nowak, Mackenzie Nowak, Kimberly Khan, Jackie Dietz, Chris Lau and Shelly Krcil. Interment followed at Holy Family Catholic Cemetery in Silver Lake.

Visitation was Wednesday, March 28 from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, with a CCW Rosary at 5 p.m., and parish prayers at 7 p.m.

Casket bearers were Bernadine’s grandchildren: Carrie Blomer, Kellie Oestreich, Brent Nowak, Derek Nowak, Matthew Kerber, Mitchell Dietz, Everett Nowak, and Arissa Nowak.
