Arndis I. Omberg, age 90, of Brainerd, died Saturday, March 17, 2012, at the Edgeview Vista Care Center in Brainerd.
She was born May 26, 1921, at Mountain, ND. Arndis grew up and attended schools in Halson, and then attended high school at Cavalier, ND.
Following graduation, she attended nursing school at the University of North Dakota, receiving her RN degree. Arndis worked at St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo for a number of years.
Arndis married Kendon Herbert Erling Omberg Feb. 11, 1949, in Moorhead. They lived in Fargo until 1969, at which time they moved to Brooklyn Park, and lived there until moving to Aitkin in 2001.
Arndis had resided at the Golden Horizons for two years, prior to moving to the Edgeview Vista Care Center in 2011.
She was a member of the Hekla Club (Icelandic Women’s Group), and Sons of Norway, and she was very proud of her Icelandic heritage.
Arndis is survived by her sons, Robert (Neva) Omberg of Delano, and Curtis Omberg of Bena; daughter Carol Munson of Aitkin; nine grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kendon in January 2004; six brothers; four sisters; a daughter-in-law, Kathryn; and a son-in-law, Randy.
A memorial service took place Saturday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. from the Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home in Aitkin with the Rev. Glenn Browning officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley.
