Russell R. Paschke, 87

Russell R. Paschke, age 87, of Winsted, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2012, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

He was born March 1, 1925, in Sauk Centre, the son of Alex J. and Ida Schuenke Paschke.

Russell was baptized in Sauk Centre March 29, 1925. He was also instructed in the Lutheran Catechism.

He honorably served his country in the United States Maritime Service for four years, from 1943 until 1946.

Russell R. Paschke and Thaline B. Sporre were joined in holy marriage Aug. 4, 1947, in Faribault. God blessed their marriage with eight children.

Russ was a former steam fitter. He later owned and operated Paschke Plumbing and Heating in Winsted and True Value Hardware store. Russ was also formerly employed at the Webster Creamery in Webster, MN, Armour Co. in St. Paul, and at Sterner Industries.

He was a faithful member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted.

Russ served the Winsted Airport for 35 years. A new building at the airport was dedicated to him.

Through the years, he built four airplanes, and his passion was flying them. He was a very accomplished pilot. He also enjoyed fishing at his cabin in Crosslake.

Russ is survived by eight children: Steve (Mary) Paschke and David (Carol) Paschke, all of Watertown, Stanley Paschke and Patty (Jerry) Wemhoff, all of Winsted, Bonnie Fisher of Loretto, Connie (Tom) Schermann and Mary (Tim) Laxen, all of Winsted and Wally Paschke and special friend Patty Adickes of Montrose; 22 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Thaline B. Paschke, who died June 20, 2010; a grandson, Billy Wemhoff; his parents; infant twin brothers Ronald and Donald, a sister, Delores; and an older brother, Martin.

Funeral services took place Thursday, Dec. 13 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted with the Rev. Mark Loder officiating. Kay Gueningsman was the organist for the funeral service.Interment with military rites followed at Winsted Public Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, Dec. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted; and continued Thursday morning at the church, one hour prior to services.

Honorary casket bearers were Arden Johnson, Ralph Diers, Kevin Kubasch, Leonard Stoppelman, Felix Quast, Rick Stodola, and Dave Millerbernd.

Casket bearers were Mike Paschke, Jennifer Schmidt, Kelli Paschke, Joseph “Joey” Paschke, Deanne Wemhoff, and Joel Paschke.
