Germaine H. Pawelk Obituary – 11/11/2012


Germaine Helen Pawelk, age 76, of rural Montrose, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 17, 1936, in Waverly, the daughter of James “Jim” and Helen Smith O’Connell.

Germaine attended St Mary’s High School in Waverly, graduating May 30, 1954.

She was joined in marriage to Kenneth Walter Pawelk at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly. God blessed their marriage with four children, Richard “Rick,” Terry, Tamara “Tammy,” and Barry.

Germaine worked hard side-by-side with her husband, Ken, on the family farm and raised their four beautiful children.

She loved all sports, and especially enjoyed watching baseball. She also was fond of bowling.

Germaine also loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Waverly, and of late, the Church of Immaculate Conception in Watertown.

Germaine is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Kenneth W. Pawelk; children, Richard “Rick” (Terri) Pawelk of Watertown, Terry (Dianne) Pawelk of Ramsey, Tamara “Tammy” (Steve) Kassulker of New Germany, and Barry (Lori) Pawelk of Montrose; 10 grandchildren: Reed (Katie) Pawelk, Paige (Matt) Lynch and Abby Pawelk; Samantha Pawelk, Dustin Pawelk and Kenneth “Kenny” Pawelk; Ryan Kassulker and Hailey Kassulker; and Danny Pawelk and Casey Pawelk; three great-grandchildren: Owen Pawelk, Walter Lynch, and Lilly Dahl; a brother, Marvin (Peggy) O’Connell of Maryland; and many other relatives and friends, including her favorite dog, Chuckie.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and by a brother, Gerald “Butch” O’Connell.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, Nov. 16 at 10 a.m. at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Watertown, with Father Joseph Fink as the celebrant. Interment followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Waverly.

Visitation was Thursday, Nov. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, with parish prayers at 4 p.m., and continued Friday morning one hour prior to Mass.

Casket bearers were Reed Pawelk, Dustin Pawelk, Kenny Pawelk, Danny Pawelk, Ryan Kassulker, and Casey Brueggemeier.
