Dr. David R. Philp, MD, age 87, of Watertown, peacefully passed away Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown.
Gathering of family and friends will occur Monday, Sept. 10 from 5 to 8 p.m.at the church, and continue Tuesday, one hour prior to Mass.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Ridgeview Foundation (Ridgeview Medical Center Waconia).
Iten’s Watertown Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
David was born Feb. 5, 1925, in Mankato.
He graduated from Mankato High School in 1943, and played in the state basketball tournament.
David furthered his education at Marquette University, where he graduated pre-med; and earned his medical degree from the University of Louisville Medical School.
He was a US Naval physician in the Korean War.
Dr. Philp worked as a family physician for 42 years in Watertown, and was honored to serve the community he loved.
He was an exceptional husband, father, grandfather, and doctor, and he loved to fish.
Dr. Philp was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. David and Florence Philp.
He is survived by Charlotte the love of his life for 62 years; and children, Nancy Simpson of Minneapolis, Dave (Peggy) Philp of Waconia, and Alison (Scott) Burgstahler of Sandpoint, ID; and grandchildren Nicole and James Simpson, David (Mary) Philp, Daniel (Katrina) Philp, Anna Philp, and Molly and Matthew Burgstahler.
