Cory John Potter, age 42, of Glencoe, died Saturday, April 7, 2012, at his home.
He was born Feb. 20, 1970, in Springfield, MN, the son of Larry and Ruth (Polkow) Potter. Cory was baptized as an infant March 15, 1970, and was confirmed in his faith as a youth April 29, 1984, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Springfield.
Cory grew up on the farm in Springfield, and was a graduate of the Springfield High School class of 1988.
He served his country in the US National Guard.
Cory was united in marriage to Amy Christensen Sept. 23, 1995, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Stewart, MN. This marriage was blessed with three children, Trevor, Brandon, and Callie.
Cory and Amy made their home in Lester Prairie, Stewart, and Glencoe, and shared over 16 years of marriage.
Cory held employment at Christensen Construction, Superior Manufacturing, Thalmann Seeds, HTI, and most recently, Millerbernd Manufacturing Co. in Winsted, for 13 years.
He was a member of Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
A hard-working man who loved to help others, Cory enjoyed auctions, movies, fishing, tractor pulls, agriculture shows, fixing on engines, and watching his children in sporting events. He especially cherished the times spent with his friends and family.
Cory is survived by his wife, Amy Potter of Glencoe; children Trevor Potter, Brandon Potter, and Callie Potter, all of Glencoe; father and mother, Larry and Ruth Potter of Springfield; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Mary Ann Christensen of Glencoe; a sister, Cristy Coulter of Argyle, IA; sister-in-law Theresa Potter of Fort Madison, IA; brothers-in-law Tracy Christensen and his wife, Brenda, Travis Christensen and his wife, Melissa, all of Glencoe, and Justin Christensen and his wife, Bethany, of Roberts, WI; nieces and nephews, Halie and Anna Coulter, Alex and Violet Potter, Lindsey and Kaitlyn Arthur, Logan and Abigail Christensen, and Madison, Kennedy, and Hannah Christensen; other relatives; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; and a brother, Craig Potter.
Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday, April 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, with interment at a later date. Fr. Anthony Stubeda was the celebrant. The organist was Sister Elizabeth Gruenes, Shari Templin was the song leader. Musical selections included “Here I Am Lord,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “I Am The Bread Of Life,” “Song Of Farewell,” and “Be Not Afraid.”
Honorary casket bearers were Trevor Potter, Brandon Potter, Callie Potter, Cristy Coulter, Tracy Christensen, Travis Christensen, and Justin Christensen
Casket bearers were Duane Odenbrett, Jeffrey Bonderman, Robert Potter, Randy Potter, Tim Vogel, Reed Rogne, Brian Kuntz, and Mike Ottenstroer.
