Barbara Jean Quaas, age 62, of Hutchinson, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at her home.
She was born Oct. 22, 1949, in Watertown, the daughter of Otto and Bernice (Prehn) Quaas. Barbara was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in her faith as a youth.
She received her education in Watertown, and was a graduate of the Watertown High School class of 1967. Barbara furthered her education at the Abbott School of Nursing in Minneapolis.
She was employed at Abbott Northwestern Hospital for 30 years as a critical care nurse, and later at Park Nicollet in Minneapolis, retiring in 2006.
Barbara was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson.
After the tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, she became a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
Barbara had a beautiful singing voice; she was a background singer for Janet Jackson, and also sang at the opening of Planet Hollywood at the Mall of America, where she met Bruce Willis. She was also a singer in a jazz band at Abbott Northern Hospital in Minneapolis.
Barbara was always helping others. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, niece, Jenny; nephew, Jeremy; and friends.
Barbara is survived by her brother, Gary Quaas and his wife, Mandy of Hutchinson; niece Jenny Barnett and her husband, Josh of Hutchinson; nephew Jeremy Quaas and his fiancée, Tara of Hutchinson; great niece Gracelyn; great nephews Joshua and Ethan; aunts Gladys, Myrtle, Millie, Lila and Sylvia; and many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Bernice Quaas.
A memorial service took place Friday, Sept. 7 at 11 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Hutchinson with the Rev. Scott Grorud officiating. Sue Graff was the organist, and congregational hymns were “How Great Thou Art,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” and “Beautiful Savior.”
