Ardell Carl Roepke, age 89, of Cokato, died Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Cokato Manor.
He was born Feb. 16, 1923, in New Germany, the son of Fred and Augusta (Guetzkow) Roepke. Ardell was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, New Germany, by the Rev. Theo. Rolf.
Ardell was married to Elaine Schwalbe May 1, 1946, at the Moravian Church in Chaska, with the Rev. Wollin officiating. Their marriage was blessed with six children.
Ardell farmed for 50 years, until retirement. For 25 years, he and Elaine lived and farmed near Watertown, before moving to a farm south of Cokato.
An avid fisherman, Ardell enjoyed fishing whenever possible.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Augusta Roepke; sister Lorraine Raether; brother-in-law Milton Raether; son Kenneth Roepke; and three grandchildren, Kathleen Murray, Tabitha Roepke, and Todd Roepke.
Ardell is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Roger Roepke and his wife Ethel, Sheldon Roepke, Allan Roepke and his wife Mavis, Susan Zeidler, and Diana Reisdorfer and her husband Ricky; daughter-in-law Shirley Roepke; brother Fred Roepke and his wife Remelva; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Saturday, May 5 at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Nirva and Deacon David Taylor officiating. The soloist was Marge Stueven, with Nancy Butterfass serving as organist. Interment was at the St. James Cemetery on Dutch Lake.
Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Howard Lake.
