Afra Roufs, 84

Afra Roufs, age 84, of Winsted, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

She was born June 1, 1927, in Winsted Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Ben and Julia Kegler Lueck.

Afra graduated from Holy Trinity High School in 1945.

She was joined in holy marriage with Donald J. Roufs April 25, 1951, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with 12 children.

Afra enjoyed fishing, gardening, dining out, traveling, and cooking.

She was a faithful, lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Afra also belonged to CCW and St. Anne’s Society, and was a member of Winsted’s American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by 11 children: Donna (Charlie) Atkinson of Brandon, FL, Steven Roufs of Winsted, Edward (Lois) Roufs of Waconia, Jerome Roufs of Howard Lake, Francis (Vicki) Roufs of Winsted, Susan Winter of Hugo, Leo Roufs of Brainerd, Willy Roufs, Carol (Jeff) Quast, all of Howard Lake, Michael (Linda) Roufs of Springfield, MO, and Alan (Sue) Roufs of Cologne; 17 grandchildren: Craig Atkinson, Rebecca Roufs, Hannah Roufs, Tracy Roufs, Courtney Roufs, Garrett Winter, Shana Winter, Heidi Roufs, Cory Roufs, Katie Roufs, Jason Quast, Rachael Halverson, Samantha Roufs, Janel Roufs, Julia Roufs, Kristin Roufs and Benjamin Roufs; and five great-grandchildren: Emily and Catherine Burfeind, Vivian and Sydney Atkinson, and Clara Quast.

Afra is further survived by a sister, Marcia Haugen of St. Paul; a sister-in-law, Charlene Lueck of Winsted; a brother-in-law, Ardner “Red” Fasching of St. Louis Park; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Donald J. Roufs; a son, Darryl; her parents, Ben and Julia Lueck; brothers Wilbert and Alice Lueck and John Lueck; a sister, Mary Ann Fasching; a brother-in-law, Russ Haugen; and by an infant brother, Michael.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, May 24 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted with Father Tony Hesse as the celebrant. Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation was Wednesday, May 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a combined CCW and St. Anne’s Society Rosary recited at 4 p.m., and parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. Visitation continued Thursday morning, May 24 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Honorary casket bearers were Rebecca Roufs, Courtney Roufs, Katie Roufs, Hannah Roufs, Shana Winter, Kristin Roufs, Tracy Roufs, Samantha Roufs, and Heidi Roufs.

Casket bearers were Garrett Winter, Jason Quast, Cory Roufs, Craig Atkinson, Benjamin Roufs, Rachael Halverson, Janel Roufs, and Julia Roufs.
