Jon Arthur Ruopsa, age 61, of Mesa, AZ and Darwin, died Saturday, Oct. 6, 2012, at the Saint Cloud Hospital.
He was born April 18, 1951, in Litchfield, the son of Ralph and Elaine (Anderson) Ruopsa.
Jon grew up in the Cokato area, and graduated from Cokato High School in 1969. He then attended Willmar Vo-Tech, graduating in 1971.
Jon was united in marriage to Diane Amundson, and the couple made their home in Mesa, AZ, where Jon was employed as a mechanical engineer for Boeing Aircraft for 22 years.
He loved to pilot his own plane, enjoyed fishing and water sports, and had recently purchased a kayak, which he had enjoyed over the summer.
In Arizona, Jon helped many people as a handyman and did home projects, large and small. He enjoyed spending time on the computer and keeping in touch with family and friends. He also would take time to go to Mystic Lake Casino and challenge Lady Luck.
Jon is survived by his wife, Diane Ruopsa of Arizona; brother Ryan Ruopsa of Dassel; his beagle mix dog, Skylar; niece Erin (Eric) Fauzie; great nephew Oliver Fauzie; nephew Kyle (Kristen) Ruopsa; great niece Hailey and great nephew Levi; and several aunts, uncles, and many cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial celebration took place Saturday, Oct. 13 from noon to 3 p.m. at the Dassel Historical Center community room.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the memorial arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Canine Companions for Independence at P.O. Box 446, Santa Rosa, CA 95402-0446.
