Stanley P. Schermann Obituary – 9/16/2012


Stanley Paul Schermann, age 83, of Glencoe, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, at his home.

He was born Sept. 1, 1929, in Victor Township, Wright County, the son of Albert and Ethel (Buska) Schermann. Stanley was baptized as an infant, and was later confirmed in his Catholic faith as a youth.

He received his education at a country school.

Stanley entered active military service in the United States Army June 12, 1951, and served his country in the Korean War. He received an honorable discharge March 11, 1953.

Stanley made his home in the Glencoe area, after being raised in the Winsted and Silver Lake areas. He helped his parents on the family farm, and also held employment at Farmhand Inc. in Green Isle, in the parts department.

Later in life, when he moved into the city of Glencoe, he opened a small engine repair shop.

Stanley was a faithful member at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe.

A private man with a positive attitude, Stanley loved to help others, and loved to talk and socialize. He enjoyed watching television, fixing things, and being with his dogs. Stanley cherished the time he spent with family, friends, and his neighbors.

He is survived by his cousins, Robert Knott and his wife, Elaine, of Minnetonka, Ken Quast of Excelsior, Donald Knott and his wife, Mary Ann, of Minnetonka, Ron Quast and his wife, Gerry, of Chippewa Falls, WI, Gary Quast and his wife, Nancy, of Malta, NY, and Dale Quast and his wife, Betty, of Excelsior; cousin-in-law Mavis Weber of Winsted; other relatives, and many friends.

Stanley was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Ethel Schermann; aunts, Anna Knott, Irene Quast, Isabell Weber, and Hildegard Quast; and cousins, Harold Knott, and Leo Weber.

Funeral services took place Thursday, Sept. 20 at 10 a.m. at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, followed by interment at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in Winsted. Father Anthony Stubeda officiated at the Mass. The organist was Sister Elizabeth Gruenes, and song leader was Shari Templin. Musical selections included “Here I Am Lord,” “Be Not Afraid,” “I Am The Bread Of Life,” “Song of Farewell,” and “Amazing Grace.”

Military honors were provided by Glencoe VFW Post 5102.

Casket bearers were Dale Quast, Ken Quast, Ron Quast, Warren Weber, Donald Knott, and Robert Knott
