Melbert E. Sodergren Obituary – 11/8/2012


Melbert E. Sodergren, age 82, of Buffalo, died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012, at Parkview Nursing Center in Buffalo.

He was born March 3, 1930, in Sauk Rapids, to Ernest and Esther (Peterson) Sodergren.

Melbert attended school in Sauk Rapids.

He served with the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict, for four years.

Following his service to his country, Melbert married Shirley Bartels Aug. 20, 1955, in Mobridge, SD. They lived, and raised their family in Minnetonka for 36 years.

Melbert retired from the US Department of Defense after 32 years.

He and Shirley retired to Buffalo in 1998.

Melbert is survived by his wife, Shirley of Buffalo; sons David Sodergren of St. Paul, Alice Sodergren, Kirk (Katherine) Sodergren of South Haven; daughter, Kirsten (Steve) Conklin of Zimmerman; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandson; a sister, Kathlyn Rudin of Minneapolis; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Funeral services took place Monday, Nov. 12 at 2 p.m. at the Covenant Church in Buffalo. There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment took place Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 10 a.m. at the Benton County Cemetery in Sauk Rapids.

Casket bearers were Charles Bartels, Paul Rudin, Jim Deis, Doug Olson, and Dane Witzel.

Memorials preferred to Buffalo Covenant Church or Timber Bay.
