Mary Anne Stenberg Obituary – 2/16/2012


Mary Anne Stenberg, age 65, of Howard Lake, died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, in Howard Lake.

She was born May 16, 1946, in Minneapolis, the daughter of Axel and Catherine (MacDonald) Anderson.

Mary grew up in Cokato, and graduated from Cokato High School in 1964.

She was united in marriage to Verdell Stenberg June 27, 1964, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cokato. The couple made their home in Howard Lake.

Mary received her registered nursing degree at the Anoka Ramsey Community College, and pursued her career at the Waconia Hospital and Howard Lake Good Samaritan Care Center for 33 years.

She enjoyed reading, bird watching, gardening, and most of all, family and friends.

A long-time and very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Howard Lake, Mary also was involved in the Lions Seeing Eye Dog program.

Mary is survived by her children, Dean (Catherine) Stenberg of Cokato, and Lauri (Darin) Zumach of Buffalo; grandchildren Jeremy Dodge, Axel, Veronica and Drake Stenberg, and Kylee and Kari Zumach; a brother, Harold (Louise) Anderson of Huntsville AL; brothers-in-law Daryll (Deb) Stenberg of Howard Lake, and John (Bev) Watson of Park Rapids; sister-in-law Kay Stenberg of Howard Lake; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

A memorial service took place Friday, Feb. 24 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Howard Lake.

Arrangements were by the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home of Cokato and Howard Lake.
