Shirley A. Sterner, age 78, of Winsted, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2012, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.
Mass of Christian Burial for Shirley Sterner will be Monday, March 5 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Tony Hesse will be the celebrant.
Pallbearers will be Max Shelltrack, Jeremy Brady, Josh Thaemert, Dustin Diers, Tyler Luedke, and Casey Luedke.
Visitation was Sunday, March 4 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a CCW rosary at 4 p.m., and parish prayers at 7 p.m.
The Chilson Funeral Home of Winsted is assisting the family with arrangements.
Shirley was born Aug. 31, 1933, in Silver Lake, the daughter of Peter and Cecila (Podlaski) Smykalski.
She was joined in holy marriage with Alfred Sterner June 23, 1951, at St. Adalbert’s in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with eight children.
Shirley was a member of the Winsted Legion Auxiliary, and the Holy Trinity CCW and Ladies Aide. She loved flower gardening and feeding the birds, especially her cardinals.
A very social person, Shirley loved to travel, and enjoyed going to the casinos and playing bingo. She was also a member of the Red Wing Pottery Association.
Shirley is survived by her children Bill (Jody), Debbie LePage, Michael, Kevin (Cathy), Fred (special friend Angela), Connie (Kevin) Stafford, and Cindy (Doug) Thaemert; grandchildren Shannon (Jay), Brett (Lisa), Cassandra (Jeremy), Nicole, BriAnna, Max, Jacob, Ashley and Josh; step-grandchildren Tyler, Ashley (Jerrod) and Casey; great-grandchildren Christian and Paige; brothers and sisters Richard (Lucy) Smykalski, Florence (Delbert) Hennessey, and Liz (Leonard) Kosek; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Linda Smykalski, Martin (Carol) Sterner, Tom Sterner, Liz (Don) Bakke, and Albert Hilk; and other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Alfred; brothers Raymond and Leonard, and infant brother Leroy; infant sister Mercedes; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Marlyce Hlavacek, Edwin Sterner, Simon Sterner, Rosemary Hilk, Hazel Sterner and Anna Sterner; and a son, Randy.
