Phyllis C. Tester, age 82,. of Watertown, died Wednesday June 20, 2012, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia.
She was born July 30, 1929, in Lyndale, the daughter of Paul F. and Alice M. (Tonn) Dressel. Phyllis was baptized Aug. 28, 1929, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Watertown Township by the Rev. K. Rudolph, and confirmed June 27, 1943, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Wayzata by the Rev Martin Pope.
Phyllis was united in marriage to William A. Tester March 25, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church in Mayer, by the Rev. Elmer Schwandt.
A loving wife, mom, grandma, and great-grandma, family always came first to Phyllis.
She enjoyed quilting at church, bird watching, gardening, especially flowers, cooking and entertaining her family, always being a very giving person.
Phyllis was very involved at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, being a member of the ladies aid and participating often in Bible class.
She worked at the grocery store in Watertown for more than 30 years, and was a cook at St. Paul’s Lutheran School.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Tester; daughter Carolyn Tester; parents Paul and Alice Dressel; and a brother, Linus Dressel.
She is survived by her loving family; son Larry “Marty” Tester of Waconia; daughter and son-in-law Laura and Lewis Chadwick of Watertown; grandchildren Chad and Joanna Devorak, Charisse Tester, Gretchen and Rick Kadle, Jonathan Tester, Ryan and Megan Chadwick, Victoria Chadwick, and Ashley Chadwick; and great-grandchildren Samantha, William, and Abbie Kadle, Jordan, Lucas, Rylee and Ryan Devorak, and Kingsley and Carrington Tester.
Phyllis is further survived by sisters and brothers-in-law Marjorie Hoese of Waconia, Jeanette and Allen Thompson of Chico, CA, and Bev and Rick Armstrong of Waconia; brothers and sisters-in-law Tom and Delores Dressel of Glencoe, Wallace and Vera Dressel of Waconia, and Ron and Jane Dressel of Maple Plain; sister-in-law and husband Joanne Dressel and Cyrus Lideen of Howard Lake; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
Casket bearers were Robert Dressel, Ken Dressel, Doug Dressel, Jim Carlson, Scott Dressel, and Tim Dressel.
The funeral service took place Saturday, June 23 at 11 a.m at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, with the Rev. Paul Krentz officiating. Interment followed at the Watertown Public Cemetery.
Visitation was Friday, June 22 from 4 to 8 p.m., with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.; and continued Saturday for one hour prior to the service, all at the church.
