Destany M. Thomsen Obituary – 6/19/2012


While surrounded by friends and family, little Destany Mariah Thomsen, age 6, of New Ulm, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Children’s Hospital in Minneapolis after having been diagnosed with a brain tumor (DPIG).

Destany was born July 23, 2005, in Glencoe.

She was a kindergartener at Nicollet Elementary, Sleepy Eye Elementary, and Jefferson Elementary (New Ulm).

Destany loved school and learning new things, and had many friends. She had a very outgoing and vibrant personality, which touched the hearts of everyone she met.

Destany was a wonderful daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, and niece; and a true princess to all who knew her. She will forever be remembered for the joy and laughter she brought to all, and will be deeply missed.

She is survived by her loving mother, Melinda (Adams) Simmons; stepfather Shaun Simmons; father Joey Thomsen; brothers Kale Thomsen, Gaven Simmons, and Gabriel Adams; stepbrothers Blaine and Cameron Simmons; grandmothers Donna Simmons, Rosemarie Barry, and Sandie Adams-Bruins; grandfathers Charles Adams (Tammy Lannoye), and Scott Svenddal; great-grandparents Ed and the Rev. Dawn Lundgren; and great-grandmother Dorothy Adams.

Destany is further survived by her uncles, Dustin Adams, John Adams, Jacob Adams, Randy Buss, Anthony Simmons, Tim Buerskin, Tony Buerskin, and Greg Thomsen; aunts Nicole Adams, Amanda Adams, Martina Boettcher, Tianna (Boettcher) Kappes, Shelbie Simmons, Stephanie Simmons, Faith Simmons, and Savannah Simmons; and many other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her great-grandfather, Firman Adams; and an uncle, “Charlie Adams.”

The funeral service took place Sunday, June 24 at 4:30 p.m. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with visitation beginning 3:30 p.m. at the church.
