Verda M. Vinkemeier, age 94, of Watertown, died Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at the Elim Home in Watertown.
She was born Nov. 25, 1917, in Waconia, the daughter of Otto and Ida (Molnau) Hilk. Verda was baptized Jan. 10, 1918, and confirmed March 26, 1931, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. Wm Schneider.
Verda was united in marriage to Reginald H. Vinkemeier Nov. 10, 1937, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Waconia by the Rev. Wm Schneider.
A loving wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma, Verda would help out on the farm baling hay and other duties that pertained to farm life.
Verda and Rex enjoyed traveling to many different destinations. They also brought roses on Sundays to nursing homes for the residents to enjoy.
Throughout her life, you would often find Verda baking pies and homemade breads, canning, flower and vegetable gardening, knitting, snowmobiling, fishing on Mille Lacs Lake, and dancing; she loved polka music.
She was an active member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, serving in the Ladies Aid (LWML); and also served as a 4-H leader.
Verda was preceded in death by her parents, Otto and Ida Hilk; a son, Roger Vinkemeier; and grandchildren, Chuck Maas, Doug Maas, and Sam Heldt.
She is survived by her loving family; husband, Rex; children, DiAnn and Alan Maas of Walker, Luann and John Peterson of Lakeville, Mary Ann and David Heldt of Watertown, and Reggie and Liz Vinkemeier of Watertown; daughter-in-law Marlys Vinkemeier of Watertown; grandchildren Christine and Lee Winkelman, Tim and Roz Peterson, Debra and Aaron Lerner, Mike and Tao Peterson, Robin Peterson, Michelle and Adam De Vries, Todd and Dana Heldt, Jodene and Steve Penegor, Nathan and Tricia Heldt, Sara and David Frankenson, Meg and Chris Wood, and Anna Vinkemeier; great-grandchildren Kayla, Hunter, Zachary, Max, Teddy, Grant, Gwendalyn, Meghan, Matthew, Alexus, Logan, Lyndsey, Lucas, William, and Carly; nieces; nephews; and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Saturday, Jan. 28 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Watertown Township, with the Rev. Bill Kirmsee officiating. There was visitation for one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment followed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Cemetery.
Casket bearers were Tim Peterson, Todd Heldt, Nathan Heldt, Adam DeVries, Lee Winkelman, and Chris Wood.
