Leo J. Weber Obituary – 9/13/2012


Leo Joseph Weber, age 75, of rural Winsted, died Thursday evening, Sept. 13, 2012, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 30, 1936, in Winsted Township, the son of Joseph F. and Isabelle J. (Scherman) Weber Jr.

Leo graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1955.

He was joined in holy marriage with Mavis E. Mallak June 26, 1965, at St. Adalbert Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with three children, Warren, Wanda, and Wendy.

Leo farmed on the family homestead for many years, and was employed at the Blue Note Ballroom in Winsted for 30 years.

He served on the Winsted Township Board for 20 years, and on the Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted School Board for 30 years.

Leo enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, visiting with people, toy tractors, woodworking, and playing cards.

He attended St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake for many years, and was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Leo also belonged to the Catholic Order of Foresters Court 1054, and the Knights of Columbus Council 8253.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Mavis E. Weber; children Warren (Mary) Weber of St. Paul, Wanda Weber (Brian Crooker) of Scandia, and Wendy (Edmund) Nowak Jr. of Silver Lake; grandchildren Melanie, Everett, Arissa, Mackenzie, and Ethan Nowak, and Joleen Woytcke; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; and other relatives and friends.

Leo was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph F. and Isabelle Weber; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Joseph J. and Irene Mallak.

A Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Father Tony Stubeda as the celebrant.Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

Visitation was Monday, Sept. 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., and a combined Catholic Order of Foresters and Knights of Columbus Rosary recited at 7 p.m.Visitation continued Tuesday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Urn bearer was Warren Weber.
