Marie V. Wylie Obituary – 9/23/2012


Marie Vonna Wylie, age 87, of Kimball, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at Ecumen Emmanuel Nursing Home of Litchfield.

She was born Oct. 12, 1924, in Harlan, IA, the daughter of Walton and Mettie (Peterson) McCain. Marie attended Harlan Grade School in Iowa, and high school in Tower Soudan, MN, graduating in 1942.

As part of the “Rosie the Riveter” war movement, she learned to weld at a technical school in Duluth, and began working for Honeywell, making periscopes that fit tanks and equipment for the war effort. During this time, she made many lifelong friends.

Marie was united in marriage to Harold Wylie April 29, 1950, and the couple made their home in Kingston Township, where they began farming.

Marie was a member of Lake Union Covenant Church, where she was active in the ladies aid, Bible study groups, and taught Sunday school for many years. She also kept active in the community, where she was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the school PTA, and a 4-H leader.

Marie was a member of the TOPS club in Dassel, with many of her friends, for over 30 years. She enjoyed reading, flowers, birds, her pet dogs, being outdoors, and spending time with her family and grandchildren.

Marie loved her Savior, Jesus Christ, and will be remembered for her cooking abilities and her beautiful smile.

She is survived by her children; Linda (and Dale) Atkinson of Kingston, Scotty (and Donna) Wylie of Kimball, Joanie (and Steve) Tyvoll of Spring Valley, WI, Tom (and Trudy) Wylie, and Gale (and Rollie) Heid, all of Kingston; grandchildren Travis (and Traci) Atkinson, Amanda (and Phil) Netolicky, Rebecca Atkinson, Autumn (and Travis) Haaf, Kari (and Jeremy) Johnston, Joshua (and Jody) Wylie, David (and Katie) Tyvoll, Benjamin (and Kaaren) Tyvoll, Sean (and Ginger) Wylie, Laurestine (Martin) Engelke, Nicole Weber, Jeremy (and Summer) Heid, and Bradyn Heid; great-grandchildren Caitlyn, Courtney, Trey, Jenna, William, Keller, Payton, Gracee, Tyler, Tanner, Sam, Hannah, Olivia, Ally, Caleb, Nathan, Jordan, Matthew, Phoenix, Kahlon, Devon, Brandon, Lexie, and Hunter; a brother, Daniel of South Haven; and many dear nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents, Walton and Mettie; husband Harold in 2006; a grandson, Jonathan; and brothers Walton Jr. and Calvin.

Funeral services took place Saturday, Sept. 29 at 3 p.m. at the Lake Union Covenant Church in rural South Haven, with Pastor Lloyd Melvie officiating. There was visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was in the Lake Union Cemetery, South Haven.
