Joseph H. Zajicek, 78

Joseph “Joe” Henry Zajicek, age 78, of Glencoe, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Glencoe Regional Health Services Long Term Care.

He was born Sept. 3, 1933, in Glencoe, the son of Henry and Frances (Bednar) Zajicek. Joseph was baptized as an infant Sept. 10, 1933, by Father P.C. Moloney; and was confirmed in his faith as a youth July 9, 1946, by Archbishop Murray, both at St. George Catholic Church in Glencoe.

Joe received his education in Glencoe, and was a graduate of the Glencoe High School class of 1951.

He entered active military service in the United States Army, serving from 1951-1953 in Germany during the Korean War.

Joe was united in marriage to Laurina Quast July 12, 1958, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. This marriage was blessed with four sons, Russ, Keith, Craig, and Todd.

Joe and Laurina made their home in Rich Valley Township, and shared over 53 years of marriage.

Joe was a dairy and crop farmer. He also held employment at 3M in Hutchinson in production starting in 1963, and retired in 1996.

A member of the Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, Joe served as an usher and past member of the Knights of Columbus.

He also was a member of the Glencoe VFW Post 5102, where he served on the Honor Guard.

Joe enjoyed hunting and fishing, and attending and watching high school sporting events. He was a conservative man, but loved mowing lawn on his John Deere equipment. Joe especially cherished the time spent with his family and friends.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Laurina Zajicek of Glencoe; sons Russ Zajicek and his wife, Lorie, of Oshkosh, WI, Keith Zajicek and his wife, Rhonda, Craig Zajicek and his wife, Christie, all of Glencoe, and Todd Zajicek and his wife, Jennie, of Dayton; grandchildren Kerry Zajicek and his fiancé, Abbie Bak, of St. Louis Park, Kyle Zajicek and his wife, Stephanie, of Chanhassen, Collin Zajicek of St. Peter, Tyler Zajicek, Courtney Zajicek, and Torey Zajicek, all of Glencoe; and one great-grandchild, Bradley Zajicek.

He is further survived by a sister, Mary Jo McKenzie of Shakopee; brothers Henry “Hiney” Zajicek of Glencoe, Gerald “Jerry” Zajicek and his wife, Karen, of Hutchinson, Ray Jilek and his wife, Alice, and John Jilek and his wife, Rosina, all of Glencoe; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Frances Zajicek; a sister-in-law, Janet Zajicek; and a brother-in-law, Alan McKenzie.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Wednesday, Jan. 4 at 10:30 a.m. at Church of St. Pius X in Glencoe, with interment in the Glencoe Catholic Cemetery. Military honors were provided by Glencoe VFW Post 5102. Fr. Anthony Stubeda officiated at the Mass, and the organist was Sister Elizabeth Gruenes. Song leader was Shari Templin, and special music was provided by Jack Noennig. Musical selections included “Here I Am Lord,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Song Of Farewell,” and “Amazing Grace.”

Honorary casket bearers were Courtney Zajicek, and Torey Zajicek.

Casket bearers were Kerry Zajicek, Kyle Zajicek, Collin Zajicek, Tyler Zajicek, Mike Jilek, and Brian Jilek.
