Dr. Jerry Carl Ahrendt, age 71, of Independence, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.
He was born Dec. 16, 1941, in Luverne, to Arthur and Catherine (Giedemann) Ahrendt.
Jerry served in the US Army during the Vietnam war, being honorably discharged March 26, 1970, at the rank of captain.
Dr. Ahrendt was a longtime veterinarian in the Delano area. He loved to care for his animals and to spend time herding his sheep with his herding dog, Suta.
He also especially loved his family, his wife, his children, and his grandchildren.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Catherine Ahrendt; brother Allen; and twin brother Jim.
He is survived by his wife, Robi; children Chris (Carolina), Kara (Paul) Richter, and Katari; grandchildren Josef and Jack Richter; as well as many other family members.
Memorial services took place Friday, Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at Light of Christ Lutheran Church in Delano.
There was a gathering of family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Iten Funeral Home in Delano, and again from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, at the church, prior to the services.
