Gary Arthur Barfknecht, age 68, of Montrose, was called home to the Lord Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
He was born Sept. 10, 1944, in Watertown, to Arthur and Lillian (Wandersee) Barfknecht.
Gary was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Watertown, and actively attended Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano.
He married Karol (Feldsien) April 27, 1963. To this union, three children and seven grandchildren were born: Alan and Sarah Barfknecht (Austin and Anna), Glen and Anne Barfknecht (Grace and Jason), and Lynn and Bob Parrack (Samuel, Nathan, Weston).
Gary was an avid outdoorsman, and found his joy in the country and the lake. He enjoyed softball, basketball, fishing, hunting, and in recent years, spent many hours planting trees on the 20-acre legacy family farm he had lived on his entire life.
He and Karol were able to enjoy vacations in Yellowstone and other national parks. Gary also enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren and many friends.
Funeral services took place Saturday, March 2 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in Delano with Pastor Paul Marggraf officiating. Interment was in the West Mt. Olive Cemetery in Delano.
Arrangements were by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
