Joyce Frances Bastin, age 70, of Dassel, died Monday, July, 22 2013, at her home.
A Celebration of Life will take place Saturday, Aug. 3 at 2 p.m. at Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arrangements are being handled by the Johnson-Haaglund Funeral Home in Litchfield.
Joyce was born Dec. 5, 1942, in Minneapolis, to Francis and Evelyn (Engels) Surges. She received her education at Osseo High School.
Joyce married Daniel McCain April 25, 1959. To this union, three children were born; Deborah, Calvin, and Keith.
She later married Dennis Bastin Jan. 23, 1988, and together they lived several places before moving to Dassel.
Joyce held many jobs throughout her life, including being an Avon representative, a waitress, working in retail, assembling medical devices, and selling animal feed and cars before she retired. The job that she loved the most was being a mother and a stay-at-home mom.
She was a good mother, and enjoyed cooking, baking, shopping, crocheting, fishing, playing dice, doing puzzles, and visiting with family and friends. Joyce baked many pies, and collected strawberries, Scottie dogs, and rabbits.
She is survived by her children, Deborah (and Russell) Koehler of Dassel, and Keith (and Patty) McCain of Kingston; three step-children, Cindi Bastin, Christina Bastin and Chastity Bastin; seven grandchildren, David Koehler, Timothy Koehler, Calla Koehler, Samuel Koehler, Emma Koehler, Danny McCain and Andrea McCain; a brother, Gordon (and Sandy) Surges of Ackley; and an aunt, Mary Gigstead of Sacred Heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dennis, and son Calvin.
