Ronnie R. Baumann, age 60, of Lester Prairie, died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at the Ridgeview Medical Center in Waconia, after a courageous battle with acute myeloid leukemia.
He was born Aug. 11, 1952, in Watertown, the son of Ruben C. and Ellen K. (Laumann) Baumann. Ronnie was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood Township.
He was united in marriage to Shirley A. Thiel Sept. 22, 1973, at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.
Ronnie had a contagious laugh and a huge smile whenever he was out. He loved to help his son, Bryan, roast hogs and work at the vendor booth at Winstock.
Ronnie also cherished spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a softball umpire for a number of years around the whole area, and in his younger days, also played. Singing karaoke was a favorite pastime for Ronnie; his preferred artist to sing was Johnny Cash. In addition, he enjoyed hunting and fishing when he had the chance to do so.
Ronnie was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben C. and Ellen K. Baumann; mother-in-law Evangeline Thiel; brother-in-law Joe Newstrom; nephew Michael Noerenberg; nieces Melissa Fiecke, and baby Kottke; and infant sister Melva Baumann.
He is survived by his loving family; wife Shirley; children and spouses Rick and Lisa Baumann of Winsted, Bryan Baumann and Jacque Lobitz of Montrose, Nate and Melissa Baumann of Winsted, and Tim and Lynn Baumann of New Germany; grandchildren Nicole Baumann, Brooke Baumann, Hailey Baumann, Ben Baumann, Janessa Baumann, Tony Baumann, and Alex Baumann; sisters and brothers-in-law Marlene and Marlin Hecksel, Linda and Dean Loehrs, all of Watertown, and Jane and Randy of Chanhassen; brothers and sisters-in-law Richard and Mary Ann Baumann of Winsted, Loren and Katherine Baumann of Mayer, Lyle Baumann of Chaska, and Randy Baumann of Wisconsin; father-in-law and wife, Roland and Joyce Thiel of Lester Prairie; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Susan and James Noerenberg of New Germany, Sandy Fiecke, Sheila and Jim Parpart, all of Lester Prairie, and Sharon and Mark Nelson of Cokato; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
The funeral service took place Friday, June 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with the Rev. Eric Nelson as officient. Interment was in the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation was Thursday, June 13 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m.; and continued Friday, one hour prior to the service.
Casket bearers were Brad Noerenberg, Justin Noerenberg, Jason Noerenberg, Josh Baumann, Troy Baumann, Terry Baumann, Danny Hecksel, and Brandon Kottke.
Honorary casket bearers were Ronnie’s grandchildren, Nicole, Janessa, Brooke, Hailey, Tony, Ben, and Alex.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home of Waconia.
