Della M. Bengtson, 98

Della Madora (Nelson) Bengtson, age 98, of Golden Valley, formerly of Dassel, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at the Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Golden Valley.

She was born May 23, 1915, on the family farm in Dassel Township, Meeker County, the daughter of Gust Alfred and Julia (Carlson) Nelson.

Della grew up in the Dassel area, attended Washington Mills District School, and graduated from the Dassel High School in 1933. She also later graduated from the Minneapolis School of Business.

Della had been employed at Pillsbury Corporation for several years.

She was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel, where she was baptized and confirmed, and had been an active member of the Evangelical Covenant Church Women.

Della was united in marriage to Harry Paul Bengtson May 21, 1941, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel. They made their home in Dassel, where they raised their two children. Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage.

In 1997, they moved to the Covenant Village in Golden Valley.

Della loved to spend time with her family, and dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing and quilting, and spending time with her friends.

Della is survived by her children, Bruce (Ruth) Bengtson of Maplewood, and Judith (George) Brinkmann of Monmouth, IL; two grandchildren, Benjamin (Debra) Brinkmann of Rochester, and Anna Brinkmann of Seattle, WA; four great-grandchildren, Paul Brinkmann, Gabriella Brinkmann, Katrina Brinkmann, and Charles Brinkmann; and one sister, Ethel Wessman of Napa, CA.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; her parents, Gust and Julia Nelson; and three siblings, Linda Nelson, George Nelson, and Emma Phillipe.

A memorial service will take place Saturday, July 27 at 1 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel, with a private interment of the urn at the Dassel Cemetery prior to the service.

Memorials are preferred to the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel, and the Covenant Village in Golden Valley.

The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
