Steven Joseph “Joe” Buschel, age 60, of Buffalo, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at home, surrounded by his family.
He was born Nov. 24, 1952, in Buffalo, the son of Herman and Margaret Serie Buschel.
Steven served briefly in the United States Marine Corps.
He was joined in holy marriage with Mary C. Holthaus Nov. 17, 1973, at St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo. God blessed their marriage with five children.
Steven was formerly employed as a meat cutter, and currently at Klatt True Value in Buffalo.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his sons and grandchildren, woodworking, attending auctions, flea markets, and antiquing.
A very personable and sociable man, Steven had a great sense of humor. He was a dreamer. As a handyman, he repaired screens.
He loved country western music and movies, especially John Wayne. He also enjoyed playing cards with family.
A volunteer at Catholic Charities and Love Inc., Steven enjoyed serving others. He was a man of honesty and humility, who loved God.
Steven was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Buffalo, and a member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree).
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Mary C. Buschel; children: Rose Buschel, Tonya (Ramon) Vega, Joseph (Christine) Buschel, Charles (Chantell Lee) Buschel, and Daniel Buschel; nine grandchildren: Dannaliz, Jonathan, Ramon Jr., and Isabella Vega; Skylee, Braydon, and Alannah Buschel, Brandon Buschel, and Angelina Buschel; brothers and a sister, Robert (Joan) Buschel, Donna (Willard) Swanson, Bill (Linda) Buschel, and James (Noreen) Buschel; his mother-in-law, Irmina Holthaus; and many other relatives and friends.
Steven was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Margaret Buschel; a brother, Richard Buschel; sisters-in-law Corrine Buschel and Kay Buschel; brother-in-law Stephen Foster; and by his father-in-law, Fred Holthaus.
A Mass of Christian Burial took place Thursday, Jan. 10 at 11 a.m. at the Church of St. Francis in Buffalo. Father David Hennen was the celebrant. Interment followed at St. Francis Cemetery.
Visitation was Wednesday, Jan. 9 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the church, and continued Thursday, one hour prior to Mass.
Casket bearers were Joseph Buschel, Charles Buschel, Daniel Buschel, Ramon Vega, Jonathan Vega, Ramon Vega Jr., Greg Donovan, Jerry Utecht, Keith Swanson, and Josh Buschel.
