Gary A. (Tex) Cochran, age 68, of Muskogee, OK, passed away peacefully Friday, March 8, 2013, at his home.
A celebration of Gary’s life will take place Saturday, May 18 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion in Howard Lake.
Gary was born Dec. 21, 1944, the third of four children born to Arnold and Dorothy (Asplund) Cochran.
He attended Howard Lake High School, worked for several different places, and then joined the Army.
Upon his honorable discharge, Gary again worked at different places in the Howard Lake and Lester Prairie area, including several years for the City of Howard Lake. He also drove truck for a time.
Gary decided to move back to Lawton, OK in 2000, where he’d been stationed while in the Army, to enjoy the warmer weather. In Oklahoma, he worked for many years as a ranch hand, something he really enjoyed because of his love of horses.
Gary enjoyed being outdoors, developing a love of the land early, while working with his family on their farm.
Over the years, he was generous with his friendship and letters. He enjoyed playing bingo at the Legion, and visiting with friends and strangers, making many friends over the years.
Gary was never in a hurry and always found the time to meet and listen to others. He fought heart disease and several other medical issues for many years.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold; his brother, John; a sister, Janet; and his grandparents.
Gary is survived by his mother, Dorothy; his sister and brother-in-law, Judy and Glenn Mallak; his brother-in-law, Laurel Anderson; his sister-in-law, Karlen Cochran; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
